MECHANICAL ORBITAL PULLEY
1) To research the rule of uniform rectilinear motion.
2) To verify Newtons second law.
3) To verity the theorem of momentum.
4) To research the acceleration of uniformly retarded rectilinear motion.
5) To verify the theorem of kinetic energy.
1. Technical specifications
1) Orbit
a. Length 900mm, width 71mm, height 25mm, orbit distance 63mm.
b. The moving distance for the pulley is 760mm.
2) Pulley
a. Mass 200 og ( contain the back guy and hanging book )
b. Wheelbase 67mm, wheel spoke 63mm.
c. Size: length 25mm, width 90mm, height 53mm.
d. It has 6 holes for weight.
3) Weight barrel
a. Mass: barrel 5g, lid 1g, total 6g.
b. Volume: the barrels diameter 40mm, the barrels height 40mm.
2. Structure ( see the diagram )
The followings are its main parts:
1) Orbit. Its a special-made aluminum alloy profile. The R-shape guiding parts on the profiles front and reverse sides can make the pulleys wheels move on it. There are a catcher on its front end, a spot timer and an arresting device on its back end, and 3 gradienter on the middle.
2) There are buffer spring and brake axle. On the front of it is a roller frame and a rollers height adjustable part, it can adjust the horizontal height of its pull rope.
3) Spot timer frame, a spot timer can installed on it by clipping screw.
4) Pulley
a. There are 6 holes for weight on it, and the pulleys mass can be changed by adding or removing weight .
b. Red button on the middle. To push it can make the lock flat loosen and thus make the pulley separate from the back axle.
c. Paper tape clip on the back end. Its used for spot timer.
5) Adjustable mechanism
a. Adjustment of the orbits gradient in front and behind direction, finished by supporting bar and anchorage screw.
b. Adjustment of the orbits level left and right, finished by adjustable screw and fixed nut.
c. Adjustment of working tables location, finished by the bolt of the working table.
d. Slideway can be fixed by gripping screw and slideways splints.
e. Adjustment of alignment and movement clearance of wheel axle and roller axle, finished by copper screw and hex head nut (having been adjusted when ex-factory).
f. Adjustment of the height of roller, turning the rollers frame by double threaded bolt and wing nut.
3. Operating method
1) when operate according to the following procedures, please pay attention to:
a. The orbit should be put on the working table, thus to make the weight barrel go up and down freely.But the front fulcrum must not be above the tables face. Use the bolt of working table to fix the working location both of the front and behind.
b. According to the experiments demand, tilt the orbit through moving the supporting bar and fixing the anchorage screw.
c. Grip the slideway firmly. Pay attention to maker the splints be on a level with the slideway, and to avoid hindering the pulleys movement.
d. Adjust the sllideway to be horizontal left and right by the adjustable screw and fixed nut.
e. Adjust the pull rope to be parallel with the slideway through tilting the roller frame by wing nut and double threaded bolt.
f. The paper tape should be folded into the paper tape clip in buckle way, and should be on a level with the spot timer when working by the mouth of paper tape clip.
g. When clipping the spot timer, the paper tape clip, paper tape and paper-guiding mouth of the spot timer should be justified. There should not be unnormal damping when paper taper is being pulling.
To replace a pull rope, please loose or tighten the rope by the tightening screw according to the needed length.
2) The pulleys movement
a. To make the pulley uniformly move, pleases life up the back end of the orbit, and adjust the gradient to be about 1:35. Then adjust it gradually until the pulley make uniform motion.
b. Lifting the back end continuously will make the pulley get into an uniformly retarded motion.
c. The six holes for weights increasing or decreasing can change the mass of the pulley.
d. The weight barrel and its weights increasing or decreasing can change the value of the traction force.
